DUBLIN JHC ‘A’ SEMI-FINAL
Last gasp scores seal Eoin’s path to junior final
COLAISTE Eoin will be St Aidan’s CBS’ opponents in the forthcoming Dublin Schools JHC ‘A’ decider, after a late showing from the gaelscoil secured a 4-10 to 1-15 victory against defending champions Ardscoil Ris at Silver Park last Thursday.
This brings Ardscoil’s quest for an unprecedented sixth consecutive junior title to an end, but following a hard-earned triumph over St Benildus College a day earlier, they will contest the Senior ‘a’ showpiece for a second year in succession.
Ardscoil had overcome an earlier reversal at the hands St Aidan’s to book their place in the last-four, and with Sean Currie, James O’Donnell and Tom Keogh all producing fine performances, they led 1-9 to 2-2 at the mid-way stage.
However, Eoin (who topped the Roinn 2 table with wins against Benildus and Colaiste Eanna) stayed in contention thanks to vital scores from Fionn Ó Ceallaigh, Conor Cinseallach and Diarmuid Ó Floinn.
Indeed, thanks to well-worked points by Séamus Ó Fiachna, Tomás Ó hEachtigheirn, Antaine Ó Cuinn and sub Liam Ó Rodaigh, they restored parity with just five minutes remaining in the contest. The prospect of extra-time was looming during this juncture in the play, but courtesy of a late 1-1 haul from their ever-dangerous attack, it was Colaiste Eoin who ultimately advanced.
