GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SHC ‘C’
‘C’ grade starts to take shape
THE key contenders are beginning to emerge in the Dublin Schools Senior Hurling ‘C’ Championship, as the four groups in the third-tier competition head towards a conclusion.
With 14 teams competing at this level, there are only three teams in Roinn 2 and Roinn 3, and following their successes over Pobalscoil Neasain and Beneavin College, St Kevin’s College have progressed to the quarter-finals.
They will face Roinn 1 runners-up, Malahide Community School, and with players from Erin’s Isle, Na Fianna and Setanta in their squad, they should prove to be formidable opponents. Conor Donoghue, Fionn Murray and Lee Whelan producing fine displays in their triumph over Beneavin on Monday, but thanks to a similar victory against the Finglas East outfit, Neasain have also advanced.
They will face Portmarnock CS in their quarter-final tie, and Neasain will have to be at their best against the Carrickhill Road boys, who secured a 3-16 to 2-16 win against Malahide last week courtesy of a dramatic final-minute goal from Ian Garry.
Elsewhere in the competition, Lucan CBS set out their stall in Roinn 4 with an early victory over Coolmine CS, while St Mac Dara’s CC are one of the teams to watch from Roinn 3.
