The Dublin U16 hurlers continued their preparations for the forthcoming Arrabawn Tournament, when they fielded more than 40 players in Group Four of the U16 Cross Provincial Hurling Blitz last Saturday.
Martin Rabbitte’s charges will be hoping to retain their Arrabawn title in Tipperary next month, and the two squads that participated in the Blitz produced strong performances in their games against Antrim and Offaly.
The ‘A’ side registered a comprehensive 3-12 to 0-6 victory against their northern counterparts in a morning game, with Naomh Barróg’s Jason Byrne acting as scorer-in-chief. Donal Ryan and David Keogh were also in fine form, as was the reliable David Hawkshaw.
Byrne was once again a dependable source for scores in their second encounter against Offaly, and with Brian Smith and David Croke working tirelessly throughout, they eventually secured a 2-10 to 1-6 win over the Faithful County.
This competition was also an ideal opportunity for the U16 management to explore the options available to them, and with Shane Kavanagh, Conal Burke and Eoin McKay stepping up to the plate, the ‘B’ team secured a win over Antrim (1-13 to 2-8).
The Sky Blues displayed great character and determination to get over the line in this outing, but even though they performed admirably in their next game against Offaly, they ultimately suffered a 2-8 to 0-13 reversal.
