U14s in excellent form

IT proved to be a successful weekend for the Dublin U14 hurlers, who emerged with a 100% record from their Cross Provincial Hurling Blitz in Offaly on Saturday.
The Metropolitans were able to field two teams on the day, with an ‘A’ team taking part in a four-team group in Banagher, whereas a ‘B’ selection travelled to nearby Lusmagh for games against Offaly ‘B’ and Clare ‘B’.
Shane Martin’s ‘A’ side were up against the first-choice selections of both of these counties, and despite trailing the Banner men by eight points at the mid-way stage of their opening encounter, fine attacking displays from Aaron O’Toole, Liam Dunne and Adam McDermott helped them to secure a 2-8 to 1-9 success.
Subsequent victories over Kildare and hosts Offaly ensures that they will have plenty of momentum heading into next month’s Tony Forristal Tournament, and there was also plenty of encouragement to be taken from the performances of Conor Grey’s ‘B’ team.
Eoghan Buckley, Liam McGovern and Sean Elliot all found the net in a 6-9 to 1-7 success over Offaly ‘B’, and with Alex O’Neill, Cillian Wall and Robert Halpin keeping a tight defensive rein, they later finished with ten points to spare (5-7 to 2-6) against Clare ‘B’.
