A star performance from centre Adam La Grue was pivotal at Donnybrook yesterday, when Terenure College overcame Cistercian College Roscrea’s stern challenge to progress to the Leinster Schools’ Junior Cup final.

Roscrea were aiming to join their senior side in reaching a cup decider, but it was Terenure who drew first blood with an eighth-minute try by scrum-half Matthew O’Shea.

Their opponents did settle following an edgy first quarter, and had an ideal opportunity to open their account on 23 minutes. However, out-half Evan Browne’s place-kick was off-target, and courtesy of an outstanding breakaway try by La Grue, Terenure held a 12-0 cushion at the start of the second period. The lead was cut by James Corcoran’s 34th minute five-pointer, and a second Roscrea try from Liam Crowley turned it into a two-point game. However, Terenure maintained their composure and with La Grue adding a penalty, they now face a March 22 showpiece against Blackrock College.
