A hat-trick of tries from Matt D’Arcy was the highlight at Belfield, where defending champions Clontarf triumphed over UCD.

The Students started brightly with a converted try for Stephen Murphy, but D’Arcy provided the spade work for Rob McGrath’s five-pointer.Liam Bourke also converted a 26th-minute penalty for UCD, but ‘Tarf led 12-10 at the break. The dynamic centre’s hat-trick was completed with consecutive tries after the restart.
