Dublin Schools Junior Camogie Shields Round-Up: The Evening Herald – January 29 2015

Joseph’s, Chaitríona and Beaufort on top in shields

BY DAIRE WALSH

HAVING lost out narrowly in the Senior ‘A’ Championship showdown the week beforehand, St Joseph’s College, Lucan had better fortune in Friday’s Junior ‘A’ Shield at Clanna Gael Fontenoy against Castleknock CC.

Goals from Emma Ryan and Fiona Daly had helped Joseph’s to develop a six-point interval lead, and upon the resumption, further green flag contributions by Maeve O’Mahony, Laura Quinn and Aoife McKearneysealed a comprehensive 5-8 to 2-2 success.

Scoil Chaitríona also had reason to celebrate, following their 6-9 to 1-2 triumph over Loreto College, Crumlin in the ‘B’ Shield. Doireann Ní Bhroin-Riain and Ellie Nic Giolla Uir were prominent scorers throughout, while skipper Tara Nic Eachrain was a strong performer in defence.

January has proven to be a month to remember for Loreto Beaufort, Rathfarnham, who followed up their Senior ‘B’ success with a Junior ‘C’ Shield victory over Coláiste de híde (3-8 to 2-5).
