Dublin South find extra gear to take derby
Dublin South 3-14 Dublin North 1-16 Leinster P-Primary Schools SHC
Dublin South produced a determined display at Parnell Park as they secured an extra-time victory over Dublin North to progress to the quarter-final.
South had displayed a keen eye for goal early on, with superb green flag contributions by Colm Hayes, Mark McGuire and Aidan Mellett helping them to a 3-1 to 0-3 lead by the 16th minute.
North’s Colin Currie, though, kept his side in touch, amassing 0-7 by the break. Dynamic South midfielder Tom Fox contributed 0-4 to his side’s first-half total as they led 3-6 to 0-8 at half-time.
However, with Currie (two), Burke, Oisin Lanigan and Darragh Butler all on target, North closed the gap to three points by the 45th minute.
North looked set to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat after a neat 1-1 salvo fromMatthew Oliver, but a close-range point by South substitute Rian Doyle forced extra-time.
Doyle continued to make a big impact in the additional periods with two eye-catching points, and with Chris Bennett, Alex Considine and McGuire also adding scores, Dublin South finished on top.
