Ulster Bank League Division 1A: Lansdowne V UCD – The Sunday Independent – November 2 2014

Aviva Stadium Lansdowne 10 (Penalty try, S Deasy pen, con) UCD 19 (P Timmins, Risteard Byrne try each, Ross Byrne 3 pens)

A strong first-half display was crucial for UCD at the Aviva Stadium, where the away side registered a surprise triumph over hosts Lansdowne. Mick Ruddock’s men have made a positive start to the 2014/15 season, but with Peadar Timmins’ try being supplemented by a brace of Ross Byrne penalties, the Students led 11-0 during the early moments.

A converted penalty try breathed fresh life into the Lansdowne challenge, before another successful Byrne place-kick gave the visitors a much-deserved 14-7 interval lead. In a scrappy second half, Scott Deasy’s three-pointer kept Lansdowne in contention, but thanks to a further touch down by replacement Risteard Byrne, UCD ultimately emerged victorious.
