FULL-BACK Gavin Dunne was the star of the show for St Mary’s College last night as his 15-point haul sent the Templeogue side joint top of the Ulster Bank Division 1A table.
Belvo fell behind 14 minutes in when Dunne easily converted a close-range penalty. Belvo levelled with a penalty from Danny Riordan four minutes later, but Phil Werahiko’s men were back in the lead thanks to a second Dunne penalty on 22 minutes.
Mary’s added to their tally before the interval when a penalty from the deadly accurate Dunne gave them a 9-3 half-time advantage.
Dunne split the posts with further efforts in the 56th and 63rd minutes. This helped to ease Mary’s back into the game, and even though last year’s champions secured a bonus point with a try from wing Peter Woods (converted brilliantly by Riordan), Mary’s held firm.
