Full-back Gavin Dunne was the star of the show for St Mary’s College at Templeville Road last night, as his 15-point haul against Old Belvedere meant that the Templeogue side are, for the time being, joint top of the table.
Playing into a strong breeze in the first half, Belvo fell behind 14 minutes in when Dunne easily converted a close-range penalty.
Belvo levelled it up with a penalty of their own from Danny Riordan four minutes later, but two more kicks from Dunne gave Mary’s a 9-3 half-time advantage, as Belvo lost their captain Richie Leyden to the sin-bin in stoppage-time.
Dunne split the posts again in the 56th and 63rd minutes, though Belvo secured a bonus point with a try from wing Peter Woods, converted brilliantly by Riordan.
