AFTER a slow start, UCD eventually overcame the spirited challenge of Division 2 side Trinity to secure their 35th Colours triumph in the 60th annual meeting between the two colleges at Donnybrook Stadium last night.
The sides were level at the break — nine points apiece — through penalties from Trinity out-half David Joyce and UCD No 10 Niall Earls.
UCD made the brighter start after the resumption as scrum-half Rob Shanley showed great initiative to break through a number of challenges before touching down left of the posts.
Earls missed the conversion, but made amends by slotting a fourth penalty shortly after.
UcD took control and further tries from right-wing Sam Coghlan Murray (73 mins) and Alex Kelly (84) eased them over the line.
