Allianz National Hurling League Division 2B: Fingal V Armagh – The Belfast Telegraph – February 24 2014

More Armagh woe

BY DAIRE WALSH – 24 FEBRUARY 2014

Fingal 2-28 Armagh 2-13: An impressive 0-11 haul by Fingal corner-forward JM Sheridan proved pivotal at Drumnigh, as 14-man Armagh suffered their second successive Division 2B defeat.

The Orchard County gave themselves a fighting chance when midfielder Fiachra Bradley kicked to the net in the 61st minute, but a neat finish from close-range by substitute Peter Daly ensured that Fingal emerged with a much-needed triumph.

A 1-2 salvo from Kevin O’Flynn helped Fingal early on, but although they conceded further scores, Armagh gave themselves a lifeline courtesy of a Liam McKee goal just shy of the midway point.

Fine points by John Corvan, Mattie Lennon (two) and Cathal McCarville kept the Orchards in contention, but their hopes faded when Daly’s major four minutes from time steered Fingal over the line.

Fingal scorers: R McGarry 0-2, P Graves 0-2, K O’Flynn 1-2, JM Sheridan 0-11, 0-5 frees, 0-1 pen. Subs: P Daly 1-1.

Armagh scorers: F Bradley 1-0, J Corvan 0-2, K McKernan 0-1, M Lennon 0-7, 5 frees, C Corvan 0-1, L McKee 1-1. Subs: C McCarvill 0-1.
