Gallant effort from Chaitríona comes up short in the end

In spite of a gallant effort in Drogheda last week, Scoil Chaitríona ultimately found themselves on the receiving end of a narrow two-point defeat (1-4 to 0-5) against Coláiste Mhuire of Clane in the Leinster PP Schools Senior Hurling ‘C’ Final.

The Mobhi Road school faced a strong breeze in the opening period, but with the ó hEanaigh triplets performing admirably in their defence, the Dublin champions were able to keep well in touch. They had a goal disallowed during the first 30 minutes of play, but thanks to fine scores from Aaron ó Brion, Lee Mac Risteárd and Seán  ó híci, they ensured that they were on level terms (0-3 to 0-3) at the midway point.

The low-scoring nature of the play continued after the restart, but a goal from Mhuire looked like it was going to prove decisive. Chaitríona once again had a potential goal ruled out, but continued to take the fight to Mhuire, with further points from ó híci and Seán ó Riain.

But, unfortunately, they came up just short in the end.

Also played last week was the Dublin PP Schools Senior Football ‘D1’ decider between Coláiste Dhúlaigh and Balbriggan CC at Ballymun Kickhams. It was a close-fought affair mostly, but  it was the latter who eventually emerged victorious, 2-9 to 1-10.
