ST BRIGID’S, Killester battled some testing conditions to defeat Gaelscoil Brian Boroimhe in the Corn Ui Neill final on Wednesday afternoon.

While there was plenty of sunshine over the course of this northside duel, heavy showers made life difficult for both sets of players during the opening half. Nevertheless, the dead-ball prowess of Brigid’s ace Eoghan Nugent and Boroimhe pair Cillian O Raghallaigh and Paraic O Casaide ensured the scoreboard was ticking over early on.

A Cathal O Meiscill three-pointer gave Boroimhe some breathing room, but two goals in the space of a minute from Conor Murphy and George McCormack handed their Killester counterparts a 2-3 to 1-4 advantage heading into the second period.

An O Raghallaigh goal moved Boroimhe back in front on the restart, but the challenge of the Swords side was subsequently reined in. Thanks to a scoring sequence of 2-3 without reply, Brigid’s emerged triumphant in ruthless fashion.

Green flag strikes from Leo Vaughan and Eoin Fitzgerald were crucial in this juncture, but three points from Nugent (who finished with an impressive tally of 0-6) also went a long way towards ensuring the silverware would be returning to the Howth Road.

SCORERS – St Brigid’s, Killester: E Nugent 0-6, C Murphy, E Fitzgerald, G McCormack, L Vaughan 1-0 each. GS Brian Boroimhe: C O Raghallaigh 1-1, C O Meiscill 1-0, P O Casaide 0-2, H O Glionnain 0-1.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Eoghan Nugent (St Brigid’s, Killester).
