Garda/Westmanstown maintain unbeaten run
By Daire Walsh
GARDA/Westmanstown Gaels continued their unbeaten run in the Dublin Ladies Football Under 16 Division B Championship with a 4-12 to 4-6 victory over Round Tower Lusk at Jerome Twomey Park on Sunday afternoon.
Following previous wins over Ballyboden St Enda’s ‘A’ (7-11 to 5-11) and Beann Eadair (11-13 to 3-11), this latest goal-laden success puts Gaels in pole position at the summit of the competition’s round robin table.
They will finish out their group stage campaign with an away clash this coming Sunday (throw-in 3.30pm) against St Peter’s – an underage amalgamation of Clann Mhuire, Ballyboughal and Garristown.
As it stands, thanks in no small part to their round three triumph last weekend, Gaels are in a good position to compete in the Division B Championship showpiece.
Despite being depleted for the visit of Peter’s to Westmanstown, they dug deep and showed great resolve to come away with the spoils for the third game in succession.
The captain of the side, Katie Murphy was the Gaels scorer-in-chief with an outstanding final haul of 2-7.
The skipper wasn’t plowing a lone furrow, however, and had ample support in an entertaining clash that was played in very testing conditions.
Emma Fay had reason to be pleased with her performance as she finished with an impressive personal tally of 1-3.
Completing the scoring for Gaels in an eight-goal thriller was Alyssa Cormican, who registered 1-2.
