Boden hurlers into Junior A decider
By Daire Walsh
BALLYBODEN St Enda’s will contest the Dublin Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship final after they recorded a 1-23 to 1-14 victory at the expense of Lucan Sarsfields in Pairc Ui Murchu on Sunday.
Their opponents in the forthcoming decider will be Clanna Gael Fontenoy, following their 1-10 to 0-10 penultimate round triumph over St Vincent’s at Sean Moore Park in Ringsend on the same day.
‘Boden had progressed to the knockout rounds of the competition with minimal fuss, registering consecutive wins in Group One against Ballinteer St John’s, Cuala and Realt Dearg.
Despite having several points to spare in each of these games, the Firhouse Road club were put to the pin of their collar at the quarter-final stage.
Playing host to St Peregrine’s on 16 October, ‘Boden dug deep to secure a 2-17 to 1-17 victory. In their own last-eight bow, Lucan Sarsfields were emphatic 3-11 to 0-12 wins over Skerries Harps at 12th Lock.
They also had a successful group stage campaign, finishing on top of a four-team section that also included Peregrine’s, Skerries and Faughs.
Given both teams having reached the final-four without a defeat to their names, it was difficult to predict on paper how this game was going to pan out.
However, Tim Sweeney’s charges had that bit extra in reserve on the day and having won the Junior ‘A’ championship on no fewer than four occasions – most recently in 2000 – Ballyboden will have their sights set on another crown.
