Dublin University 24
Dungannon 16
Tries from back-row pair Pierce Dargan and Jack Kelly proved decisive at Merrion Road, as Dublin University held off a strong challenge from Dungannon to hold on to second place in the table.
A Dargan try on 21 minutes (converted by David Joyce) finally opened the scoring, and this was added to in the 40th minute by a penalty try.
A brace of Stuart McCloskey penalties either side of half-time did offer Dungannon a ray of hope, but a third try from the dynamic Jack Kelly on 50 minutes increased the hosts’ advantage to 15.
Well-taken five-pointers from Mark Jenkinson and Ali Birch did test the mental resolve of Trinity, but a successful penalty by Joyce on the hour mark was enough to seal their first victory in four outings.
