Dublin Colleges Senior Camogie ‘B’ Final: Lucan Community College V Scoil Dara – The Evening Herald – January 31 2013

Relentless Lucan crush Scoil Dara

DUBLIN SCHOOLS SENIOR CAMOGIE ‘B’ FINAL

LUCAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE 7-9 SCOIL DARA, KILCOCK 1-0

ORLA BEAGAN and Siobhan Grimes were the stars of the show last week in Sancta Maria College as Lucan Community College enjoyed a comprehensive victory against an overwhelmed Scoil Dara, Kilcock.

With St Joseph’s emerging triumphant in the ‘A’ final, this win secured a double for Lucan schools at the top level of senior camogie in the capital.

Scoil Dara were up against it from the word go, and with Claire Rigney and Elaine McCllelland pulling the strings from midfield, Lucan had an excellent platform to build on.

Their attack was a constant threat to the Kilcock school’s rearguard from the early stages, as the clinical Grimes was on hand to secure her hat-trick before the end of the opening period. And with Grimes (two) and Catherine Carron also chipping in with majors, the Esker Drive outfit held an insurmountable 6-4 to 0-0 lead at the midway stage.

It was effectively damage limitation for the Kildare side after the re-start, but even though they managed to raise a green flag, the Lucan girls continued to control the tempo, and thanks to a third goal from Beagan, and a plethora of points from Rigney and McClelland, Lucan were able to ease over the line. This success was the school’s first since 2011, and they now move forward to a home All-Ireland quarter-final against Woodford of Galway.
