Costello to fore as Lady’s lash Loreto
By Daire Walsh
A BRACE of goals from Hannah Delaney and Kelly McLoughlin were of vital importance in Ringsend last Thursday afternoon, as Our Lady’s, Terenure got the better of Loreto High School, Beaufort, in a high-quality Dublin Colleges Junior Camogie ‘B’ showpiece.
Playing against the wind in the opening half, Loreto were put under great pressure by Our Lady’s, for whom midfielder Catherine Costello was very influential.
However, their netminder, Zenouska Murphy, was in fine form and kept Terenure at bay.
It was proving equally difficult for Loreto to get past Our Lady’s custodian Cora Hogan, who produced some inspiring saves, although Eimear Butler and captain Sophie McMahon did eventually break through for a couple of well-taken goals.
Eimear O’Leary also fired over a point, but Delaney and McLoughlin combined to devastating effect, ensuring that the Templeogue Road outfit brought a 4-1 to 2-1 advantage into the second period.
The Rathfarnham girls added to their goals from before the break with further efforts from Freya Nathan and O’Leary.
But with Delaney and McLoughlin continued to cause problems for Beaufort, who also saw fine displays from Meg Brennan and Carey Finnegan to help claim the win.
