Colaiste Eoin overcome St Peter’s for last-four spot

COLAISTE Eoin held firm against St Peter’s College at Ballyboden St Enda’s yesterday afternoon to seal their place in the semi-final of the Leinster Schools Senior ‘A’ Football Championship.

The gaelscoil were provincial winners as recently as 2014 – their first title was accrued in 1998 – and with momentum behind them, will have their sights set on once again claiming top honours. They also reached the final-four of last year’s competition, when eventual champions Naas CBS got the better of them in Abbotstown.

Hot on the heels of last week’s emphatic triumph over St Benildus College in the same venue, Eoin raced four points clear during a blistering opening to the contest. While Peter’s fired back with a goal, the Booterstown outfit held a convincing 0-8 to 1-2 buffer at the break.

The Slaneysiders remained in contention and Shane Pettit slotted home a penalty on the resumption. Yet despite being reduced to 14 men, Iain ó hÉithir and Dónal Mac Dunnsleibhe rattled the opposition net to give Eoin considerable breathing room.

A third Peter’s goal ensured it was a tense finale, but the Metropolitans ultimately advanced into the penultimate round.
