COLAISTE EOIN progressed to the quarter-finals of the Leinster Senior ‘A’ Football Championship with an emphatic 2-15 to 0-9 win against St Benildus College in Ballyboden yesterday.
Both schools have enjoyed recent success in this competition, with Benildus’ 2016 final triumph being preceded by Eoin’s day in the sun just two years earlier. However, the Gaelscoil controlled the tempo throughout the course of this Dublin derby.
Lúc Breathnach rattled the Benildus net on seven minutes and Brendán ó Scanlán added another goal late on to secure Eoin’s safe passage into the next phase.
Elsewhere in the provincial series, St Aidan’s CBS suffered a comprehensive 2-16 to 0-7 defeat at the hands of a slick Moate CS. With the Westmeath school gaining home advantage, victory was always likely to be a big ask for the Collins Avenue outfit.
The Lake County side developed a commanding 0-10 to 0-4 interval cushion and after Adam Donohue converted a 45th-minute penalty, they powered their way into the last-eight.
Meanwhile, Ardscoil Ris were crowned Dublin Senior ‘A’ Football champions with an impressive 2-13 to 1-11 triumph over Maynooth PP in Lucan Sarsfields.
