Dublin schools lose out

THERE was disappointment for both St Aidan’s CBS and St Benildus College in the Leinster Schools Senior A Football Championship yesterday as they fell to defeat at the hands of Knockbeg College and Naas CBS respectively.

Having squeezed past the challenge of Maynooth PP in Moyglare just seven days earlier, Aidan’s were looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in Group B. They welcomed Knockbeg to the DCU Sportsgrounds but despite coming into the contest with high spirits, the northsiders came off second best.

The boys from the Laois/Carlow border emerged with a commanding 3-14 to 1-8 triumph. Nevertheless, thanks to Knockbeg’s earlier win at the expense of Maynooth, Aidan’s are still assured of a spot in the knockout rounds.

This is also the case for their Metropolitan counterparts Benildus, who fell to heavy 4-24 to 1-8 reversal at the expense of defending champions Naas.
