College Park: Dublin University 28 (N Aedeolukan, P Dargan, B Du Toit try each C Marsh 3 pens, 2 cons) Malone 24 (L McGillan 2 tries, 3 cons, pen, J Pentland try)
RUGBY: BRIAN Du Toit was the hero in College Park yesterday afternoon, as his 74th minute try helped Dublin University to maintain their winning start to the Ulster Bank League Division 1B with a dramatic victory over an impressive Malone in a nail-biting encounter.
The visitors had made an excellent start to the contest, with Lorcan McGillan’s penalty followed by a well-worked try from out-half Josh Pentland. Cathal Marsh eventually opened Trinity’s account with a 12th minute place kick. The pacy Niyi Adeolukan also crossed the line for Trinity with four minutes remaining in the opening half, but this arrived in between two converted tries from the excellent McGillan, who helped the Ulster men to a 24-10 interval lead.
Trinity received a lifeline six minutes after the re-start, when replacement Pierce Dargan touched down on the left via a neat off-load by centre Paddy Lavelle and Trinity No 10 Cathal Marsh added a brace of penalties to reduce the Malone cushion to three.
But Trinity flanker Du Toit broke free for a try that was expertly converted by Marsh and it proved to be the decisive score seven minutes from time to maintain Trinity’s 13-month unbeaten league run.
