CIARA CAROLAN and Ella Carr were the stars of the show for St Dominic’s College in Celbridge last Thursday afternoon as the Cabra school comprehensively defeated St. Wolstan’s College in week three of the Dublin Schools Junior ‘A’ competition.

Wolstan’s would have been hoping to get some sort of joy playing on their home patch, but they were largely powerless in their efforts to stop Dominic’s from recording their facile victory.

From the word go, Dominic’s looked to be the sharper of the two sides, and with the tigerish presence of Carr and Ciara McDonald in defence, it was always going to be difficult for Wolstan’s to build up momentum.

Indeed, the Dominic’s defence remained completely unbreached in the first half, which was a sharp indication of just how dominant the north Dublin outfit were during the opening 30 minutes.

INCISIVENESS

They were displaying plenty of incisiveness in attack, though, and goals from the excellent Carolan and Orla Murphy, as well as a brace of points from Laura Gregg, helped Dominic’s towards a 3-4 to 0-0 lead at half-time.

The second period sawa much-improved performance by the north Kildare school, who managed to break through the stern Dominic’s rearguard for a tally of 1-2. Each score for Wolstan’s was hard earned, though, and Dominic’s never displayed any signs of panic.

The combination play between the aforementioned Carolan, Gregg and Murphy continued to catch the eye as the action drew to a close, and another brace of majors helped them to ease over the line in the end.
