AT the end of a goal-laden affair at Russell Park last Thursday afternoon, Colaiste Mhuire were crowned Dublin Schools Junior ‘E’ Football Section Two champions.

En route to the final, Mhuire – situated in Cabra – emerged from a four-team group that also included Synge Street CBS, St Kevin’s CC and Hansfield ET.

Their opponents, Scoil Ui Chonaill, had come through a difficult preliminary phase of their own involving Blakestown CS, Riverdale CC and Trinity Comprehensive.

There was little to separate the two teams on paper, but Mhuire’s clinical edge ensured they triumphed on a scoreline of 7-9 to 3-12. In Blessington on the same day, Ashbourne CS suffered a narrow reversal to St Mary’s CBS, Enniscorthy in the Leinster Schools First Year Division Two football decider.

Despite being located in Meath, Ashbourne have strong links to a number of north Dublin clubs. They fought gallantly for supremacy, only for the Slaneysiders to ultimately claim a 5-7 to 3-8 success.

Meanwhile, Scoil Chaitriona were anointed Dublin Schools Juvenile ‘C’ Hurling champions with a hard-fought win over Skerries CC at St Mobhi Road on Friday. Earlier on the same day – in Abbotstown – Coolmine CS secured the Juvenile ‘D’ Hurling title at the expense of HFCS Rathcoole.
