MALAHIDE Community School powered into the Leinster Schools Senior Hurling ‘C1’ Championship final with a comprehensive 7-19 to 1-12 victory against St Pat’s, Navan at Pairc Tailteann last Friday.
The northsiders progressed to the provincial grade as a result of their January 25 county success over St David’s CBS. Thanks to impressive displays by Liam Foley and Darragh McLoughney, they recorded a 2-17 to 1-9 triumph at Alfie Byrne Park.
Both players were once again on song at the spiritual home of Meath GAA, with Foley – a Dublin Colleges hurler – contributing a series of fine scores. Despite Sean Murphy grabbing a goal for the Metropolitans, they were just two points in front at the break.
However, three goal in the space of five minutes on the resumption effectively closed out the game for Malahide. With a breeze at their backs, they continued to increase the gap between themselves and Pat’s.
Foley and Jack Keogh were in scintillating form and while the final outcome was slightly flattering for John Mangan’s side, they ultimately eased through in consummate fashion. They will now face Duiske College of Kilkenny in a mouth-watering showpiece encounter.
