TEMPLEOGUE COLLEGE 3-12 ST FINTAN’S HS 2-5 – A 2-7 TALLY from Chris Bennett was vital in Tymon Park on Tuesday as Templeogue College produced an excellent second-half display against St Fintan’s High School to book their place with Ardscoil Rís in the final.

TEMPLEOGUE had quite a bit to spare over their semi-final counterparts, but it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Templeville Road school as Fintan’s caused them a number of problems in the early stages of this contest, and were able to break through the Templeogue rearguard for a brace of well-taken majors.

Templeogue were able to keep in touch for the most part, though, and a goal from the lively Ryan Doyle meant that Fintan’s had to be content with a two-point lead (2-4 to 1-5) heading into the second period.

However, it was a different matter after the re-start and Fintan’s were only able to register one more point, whereas Templeogue racked up an impressive 2-7.

Accuracy

Bennett’s accuracy from placed balls as well as from play was essential to his side’s dominance, and his two goals gave the south Dublin boys the confidence to push on towards victory.

It was far from being a one-man show, however, as Colm Hayes finished the game with 0-4 to his name. Templeogue also had strong performers further out the field, as Aaron Coffey, Stephen Dowling, Michael Fitzgerald and half-back Chris O’Neill were all key.

With the final due to take place next week, Mike O’Dwyer’s side will take great confidence from their display against the Sutton outfit, and will feel that they have a great chance of coming away with the top prize.
