MALAHIDE CS claimed the Dublin Schools Senior ‘C’ Hurling Championship with an emphatic final triumph over St David’s CBS at Alfie Byrne Park last Friday.
Previous winners at this grade in 2016, Malahide were battle hardened as a result of their penultimate round success against Clonkeen College. They faced a David’s outfit that had motivation on their side, following their defeat to St Mac Dara’s CC in last year’s decider.
Nevertheless, despite facing into a strong breeze, Malahide were in the driving seat during the opening period. Thanks in no small part to a Ciaran McLoughney goal, they developed a 1-9 to 0-5 buffer at the break.
With the elements now at their backs, Malahide inevitably increased the gap on the resumption. Alongside McLoughney’s brother Darragh, Dublin Colleges star Liam Foley kept the scoreboard ticking over.
The David’s squad contained a number of players who had secured the Dublin Junior ‘C’ hurling title at Oatland College’s expense two days earlier and they produced a spirited showing inside the final-quarter. However, it wasn’t enough to damp the mood in the victorious Malahide camp.
