Donegal siblings Chloe and Sam Magee claimed a magnificent mixed doubles title at the AIG FZ Forza Irish Badminton International Open on Saturday in the National Indoor Arena, Blanchardstown.

Thanks to a straight games win (21-13, 21-12) over England’s Harley Towler and Emily Westwood, the Raphoe pair became the first Irish winners at the tournament since Scott Evans’ singles triumph in 2012. It also brought Chloe’s long-awaited search for a second Irish Open victory to an end, after she previously amassed the women’s doubles crown in 2007.

They overcame a shaky start to win the opening game of the decider. Despite encountering initial resistance on the restart, the dynamic duo eventually cruised towards a convincing win.

Leo Rossi (France) and Se Young An (Korea) triumphed in the respective men’s and women’s singles finals.

The aforementioned Westwood combined with Malaysia’s Li Lian Yang to secure the women’s doubles trophy, while the men’s doubles crown went the way of Korean duo, Choi Solgyu and Seo Seung Jae.
