DUBLIN South fell to a heavy defeat in their final group game of this season’s Leinster Schools Senior ‘A’ Hurling League at Dicksboro GAA, Palmerstown yesterday afternoon.

Kilkenny CBS had all of 17 points to spare at the end of this contest and will now rival Noresiders St Kieran’s College – the defending champions – in the competition’s forthcoming decider. With all three teams in the group registering one win apiece from two games played, CBS’ superior scoring average has seen them emerge at the summit of Roinn Three.

Niall Williams’ Metropolitan outfit entered this game knowing that a second consecutive victory would secure their place in a league showpiece. Whereas Kieran’s needed to negotiate a semi-final showdown with St Brendan’s, Birr, the Roinn Three winners bypass the penultimate rounds.

South passed their first test on October 15 with flying colours – comfortably defeating St Peter’s, Wexford on a scoreline of 2-24 to 1-14. Peter’s subsequently overcame the challenge of CBS, further increasing the tension ahead of yesterday’s encounter.

Liam Murphy and Fergal Ryan impressed in that group opener, while Matthew Dunne and Aaron O’Toole also made their mark in attack. They had some fine performers throughout Wednesday’s tie, but were ultimately second best to a slicker Kilkenny CBS side.
