COLAISTE Eoin’s North Leinster Schools Senior ‘A’ Football League campaign came to an end at the hands of Marist College, Athlone at Pairc Chiarain yesterday afternoon.
Following a dominant performance on the Ballymahon Road, the Westmeath men booked their place in the upcoming decider with a 1-17 to 1-5 victory.
The south Dubliners were champions at this grade as recently as March 2017 – when they edged out Colàiste Mhuire, Mullingar.
They have also collected the South Leinster league trophy in the past and their Leinster SF ‘A’ Championship triumph in 2014 was at the expense of Marist. While the forthcoming provincial championship will be foremost in their minds, there was significant signs of encouragement in their early season league form.
En route to the last-four, Eoin came through a group featuring St Pat’s, Navan, St Mary’s, Edenderry and the aforementioned Colaiste Mhuire.
Marist were equally formidable on their path to the semi-stage, as they negotiated their way out of a section that included neighbours Athlone CC, Moate CS and St Mel’s, Longford.
Although Eoin picked off some nice scores over the course of the hour, Marist emerged with a deserving 12-point win on the day.
