ST FINTAN’S HS, Sutton continued their winning run in the Dublin Schools Juvenile ‘A’ Football Championship by getting the better of Ardscoil Ris at Alfie Byrne Park last Friday.

Following recent triumphs over St Benildus College and St Aidan’s CBS, Fintan’s had four points to spare (3-15 to 4-8) against the Griffith Ave school.

Courtesy of goals from Ben Grassick and Daniel Sheridan, they developed a healthy lead during the early exchanges in the Clontarf Road venue.

Ardscoil had their own spells of attacking pressure, most notably when midfielder Eric Lambert rattled the Fintan’s net in clinical fashion. Despite being five points adrift (2-10 to 2-5) at the break, they slowly edged closer to the Sutton outfit on the resumption.

Ciaran Stacey’s three-pointer helped to reduce their deficit to the bare minimum, but a well-organised Fintan’s were always able to step up a gear when required. The versatile Alex Dycher brought his final tally to 1-4 with a neat goal in the closing moments, effectively placing the outcome beyond doubt in the process.

Sheridan and Conor Gibney were in fine form throughout for St Fintan’s, while Conor White’s three-point haul also proved crucial to their success. Meanwhile, St Aidan’s CBS suffered a four-point defeat at home to Maynooth PP on Tuesday – bringing the Collins Avenue side’s quest for a spot in the knockout rounds to an end.
