Ris outclass Fintan’s

ARDSCOIL Ris got their First Year Hurling League campaign up and running with an impressive 5-6 to 2-7 triumph over St Fintan’s HS, Sutton at Alfie Byrne Park last Thursday afternoon.
Cillian Cummins and Ryan Murphy were the star performers for the Griffith Avenue school, who had developed an insurmountable lead before Fintan’s mounted a spirited final-quarter showing.
Cummins had served notice of Ardscoil’s intentions with an early three-point salvo and an opening goal soon followed from Murphy.
He subsequently rattled the Fintan’s net for a second time to further emphasise Ris’ superiority on the play, while Cillian Kane also added his name to the scoresheet.
Thanks to a third major – courtesy of the ever-influential Cummins – they brought an unassailable 3-6 to 0-0 advantage into the interval.
Fintan’s finally opened their account when the action resumed with a brace of unanswered points as the Ardscoil management opted for wholesale changes to their line-up.
Nevertheless, a fourth goal soon arrived through Alfie O’Driscoll and George Stevens also raised a green flag.
The Sutton side’s persistence in attacking finally paid off – they substantially reduced their deficit by amassing 1-5 without reply.
St Fintan’s continued to probe in the closing moments of the contest, though it wasn’t enough to deny Ardscoil a much-deserved eight-point victory.
