PETER BOTHWELL won the AIG Irish Open Tennis Championship men’s singles final at Carrickmines yesterday.
The 22-year-old from Co Down beat Britain’s Ryan James Storrie 5-7 6-3 6-3 in an an absorbing decider in a come-from-behind victory.
It is the first singles crown on Bothwell’s pro career.
A fascinating duel looked set to go down to the wire in the third set.
But brilliant Bothwell was not to denied as he won three games on the bounce to finally overcome Storrie’s dogged challenge.
Meanwhile, Emily Appleton took the women’s singles title with a straight-sets victory – 6-4 to 6-3 – over fellow Brit Sasha Hill.
