GAA: DUBLIN JUV HC ‘B’ FINAL
Declan’s triumph over Templeogue
Daire Walsh
THANKS in no small part to a fine individual performance from Jack O’Shea, St Declan’s College secured the Dublin Juvenile Hurling ‘B’ Cup with a 1-14 to 2-7 victory against Templeogue College at Abbotstown on Tuesday.
It has been another memorable season for Declan’s, who were crowned Senior ‘B’ Hurling champions at the expense of Lucan CBS back in February. Silverware will also be up for grabs in Johnstownbridge tomorrow when the Cabra school’s U16 footballers face St Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge in a Leinster ‘B’ showdown (throw-in 10.30am).
There was little to separate Declan’s from the southsiders at the National Games Development Centre, especially during a tightly contested opening period. While Donnacha Murray, Scott Couch and Aaron Duff were all in excellent form, they had to be content with a one-point cushion at the break.
Templeogue continued to dig deep on the restart and the Templeville Road outfit remained in contention up until the closing moments, but with O’Shea’s pace and power driving them forward, St Declan’s eventually claimed the spoils.
Meanwhile, there was disappointment for HFCS Rathcoole at IT Blanchardstown last Thursday afternoon, after they were comprehensively defeated (4-9 to 0-4) by St Farnan’s, Prosperous in the Leinster Schools Senior Football ‘D’ Championship decider.
