Brave ‘Nure defeated by impressive Ardee

TERENURE College suffered a comprehensive defeat (3-20 to 1-9) at the hands of St Cillian’s, Ardee CS in the Leinster Schools Senior Football ‘C’ Championship decider last Friday.
Following their maiden U18 county success last month, ‘Nure progressed to this provincial final. Ardee hit the ground running in Abbotstown, before John McGinn settled ‘Nure with some excellent place-ball efforts.
McGinn was joined on the team by a number of his Ballyboden St Enda’s team-mates and there was also a strong representation from Templeogue Synge Street. Yet, the absence of Dublin underage star Adam Byrne was keenly-felt as Ardee developed a 2-9 to 0-4 interval advantage.
‘Nure gave themselves a fighting chance with McGinn and Conor Gleeson scores on the restart, but Ardee were always a couple of steps ahead of their opponents. Terenure battled until the bitter end and McGinn’s final haul of 0-5 was supplemented by a Luke Byrne penalty on the stroke of full-time.
