DUBLIN SHC ‘B’ FINAL: ST DECLAN’S 4-13 LUCAN CBS 2-10
Clerkin leads Declan’s to glory

A STUNNING individual performance from Sean Clerkin, who tallied 3-6 (1-5f) paved the way for St Declan’s College’s 4-13 to 2-10 success over Lucan CBS in the Dublin Senior Hurling ‘B’ decider at Abbotstown on Tuesday.
Declan’s have a strong pedigree in schools hurling, and points by Ian Sherry, Neil Clerkin and David Phelan offered them an early platform against the Ballydowd outfit. A Sean Clerkin goal subsequently enhanced their lead, before 2017 county minor Ben Coffey finally settled Lucan with a series of successful placed-ball efforts.
Declan’s then responded with a second goal from Neil Clerkin, which provided them with a commanding 2-6 to 0-5 lead at the midway point. Brian Avery’s side were facing into a strong breeze when the action resumed, but it didn’t limit the effectiveness of their attack.
Following a brace of quick-fire Sean Clerkin three-pointers (completing his hat-trick of goals), Declan’s placed the outcome beyond doubt. Lucan kept fighting until the bitter end, though, and they added an air of respectability to the final scoreline with two late goals.
