Dundalk Institute of Technology progressed to the first round of the Sigerson Cup with a convincing preliminary phase victory over Trinity College at Santry Avenue last night.

Donal Meegan, Gerry McSorley, and Conor Doherty helped the Dundalk side to establish an early foothold in the contest.

James McGuinness and Dylan Brady briefly narrowed the gap for Trinity, but after David McGivney’s 18th-minute goal was complimented by a succession of scores, Oisin McConville’s charges held a commanding 1-13 to 0-4 interval lead.

Trinity made a bright start to the second period with a successful Guinness free, but following a 0-2 salvo from McEnaney, DKIT remained in the driving seat.

Trinity’s woes were compounded by the 52nd-minute dismissal of Eoin O’Neill, and with nine different scorers over the course of the hour, DKIT advanced to face DCU next Wednesday (January 31).
