Mullin and Kelly lead charge for Leinster A
Sardis Road Cardiff Blues Premiership Select 27 (B Thomas try, pen, 2 cons, D Smith, J Botham, S Gibson try each) Leinster ‘A’ 41 (C Marsh try, pen, 3 cons, C Frawley try, con, C O’Brien, J Aungier, G Mullins, J Kelly try each)
LATE tries from Gavin Mullin and Jack Kelly helped Leinster ‘A’ to secure a hard-earned 41-27 British & Irish Cup victory against Cardiff Blues Premiership Select at Sardis Road.
This was Leinster’s fifth consecutive bonus-point success in Pool Two, and even though they conceded an early penalty to Cardiff’s Ben Thomas, tries from Cathal Marsh, Ciaran Frawley and Conor O’Brien placed them in the driving seat.
Dafydd Smith and James Botham five-pointers reduced the Cardiff deficit to four points (19-15) in time for the interval, before Noel McNamara’s visitors reinforced their superiority with a Jack Aungier try six minutes after the restart. Ben Thomas and Scott Gibson crossed over for the Blues to set-up a tension-filled finale, but thanks to interventions by Mullin and Kelly, Leinster ‘A’ booked their place in the knockout rounds with a game to spare.
