Story Of The Game: All-Ireland Club Senior Ladies Football Championship Final: The Evening Echo – December 4 2017

Story of the game

SCORE OF THE MATCH: With just 12 minutes left on the clock, Cork senior star Brid O’Sullivan linked up with Laura Fitzgerald, and brilliantly fired beyond the reach of netminder Michelle Higgins.

REFEREE WATCH: Cavan referee Maggie Farrelly handed out yellow-cards to Carnacon trio Doireann Hughes, Claire Egan and Michelle McGing, as well as Mourneabbey full-back Cathy Ann Stack.

TURNING POINT: There was 23 minutes gone in the first half when Mourneabbey were presented with their first goal opportunity. Had Doireann O’Sullivan’s fierce shot hit the back of the net rather than the post, it would have placed them in a stronger position.

KEY PLAYER: Although there was a lot of focus on the attacking talent on show, Carnacon’s Martha Carter showcased her versatility by kicking two opening half points. She also proved to be an excellent link between defence and attack for the eventual winners.
