GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SCHOOLS JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING

Lucan earn revenge and make semis

FOLLOWING their hard-earned victory over St Fintan’s HS, Sutton last Thursday, Lucan CBS booked their place in the semi-finals of the Dublin Schools Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship.

Fintan’s had kick-started their group campaign with a 2-16 to 3-12 win against St Aidan’s CBS before suffering a five-point reversal (1-12 to 0-10) at home to Ardscoil Ris on September 26.

This meant that they needed to return to winning ways if they wanted to advance to the knockout stages of the competition, and the same was true of their Ballydowd opponents.

The two sides actually faced each other in the final of the ‘B’ grade last November, which ended in a 7-13 to 1-12 triumph for Fintan’s, so Lucan were eager to make amends for that defeat.

It was a tightly contested affair for the most part, but thanks to some solid displays at either end of the field, Lucan ultimately prevailed on a scoreline of 0-23 to 0-20.

They will be joined in the final-four by last season’s finalists, Ardscoil Ris (winners) and Colaiste Eoin, and the Lucan CBS senior hurlers will be hoping to replicate this feat when they face Castleknock CC in the quarter-final of the Senior ‘B’ Championship this afternoon (2pm throw-in).
