Galway fail to handle Rebel class
WITH two titles apiece at this grade over the course of the previous four championship campaigns, it was anticipated that the two sides would go right down to the wire.
While both themselves and Cork have developed entirely new squads since their classic 2014 final encounter in Birr, six victories from as many games en route to this decider suggested that Galway were ideally placed to challenge the Leesiders for their crown.
Indeed, with the sides tied at 0-2 apiece after 13 minutes, it looked like it would be a close-run affair. However, when Sadhbh O’Leary found the back of the net at the end of the first-quarter, it was a springboard for a dominant performance from Cork.
Galway were never allowed to settle back into the game, and though substitute Andrea Trill did her best to stem the tide, it turned into a surprisingly one-sided contest – where Cork were able to comfortably dictate the flow of the play.
