DEFENDING champions Old Bawn CS will face Colaiste Pobail Setanta in the semi-final of the Dublin Schools Juvenile Hurling ‘E’ Championship, following their impressive 5-11 to 2-2 triumph over Moyle Park College at Thomas Davis GAA on Tuesday afternoon.

Although Moyle Park were still contention during the early stages of the second-half, a well-worked goal by Leighton Smith proved to be the catalyst for Old Bawn’s eventual success. The venue for this game was ideal for the Tallaght school, as they are significantly backboned by players from Thomas Davis.

They broke the deadlock with a point on the all-weather on Kiltipper Road before Moyle Park responded with the opening goal of the contest.

However, with Trevor Grehan, Evan Caffrey and Fionn Murray (who contributed two goals during the course of the proceedings) all in fine form, Old Bawn brought a commanding 2-6 to 1-2 lead into the break.

This left Moyle Park in a precarious position when the action resumed, but courtesy of another green flag effort in the third-quarter, the Clondalkin school gave themselves a fighting chance.

Yet, a composed finish from Smith re-energised the Old Bawn challenge, and thanks in no small part to additional goals by Craig Burns and Adam McGill – as well as a superb individual display from Sam Stewart – they comfortably advanced to a last-four encounter against 2016 finalists Setanta.
