GOALS were the order of the day for Salesian College at O’Toole Park last Thursday as the Celbridge side claimed the Dublin Schools Junior ‘C’ Football Championship crown with a comprehensive 5-9 to 2-4 triumph over St Colmcille’s CS.

With Kildare underage star Cian Powell in their ranks, Salesians had took much firepower for their Knocklyon counterparts, and they will now face O’Carolan College, Nobber in an upcoming Leinster semi-final encounter.

The Lilywhite outfit had progressed to this county decider with a deserved victory against near rivals Colaiste Cois Life on February 6, just four days on from the school’s defeat to St Kevin’s CBS in a Dublin Juvenile Football ‘C’ showpiece.

IMPRESSED

Colmcille’s had impressed in a 4-12 to 1-12 win at the expense of Clonkeen College in the penultimate round of the competition, but although they developed an early lead in this contest, they soon fell behind to a committed Salesians.

Adam O’Connor, Cathal Markey and Aaron Hennessy produced impressive displays during the first half, which helped the north Kildare boys establish a commanding interval advantage.

Having just returned from a lengthy injury lay-off, Powell was eventually withdrawn from the action in the second period.

However, with Shane Mortell, Johnny Owens, Cormac O’Sullivan and Paddy Wall all finding the back of the Colmcille’s net, Salesian College ultimately claimed the silverware on offer with all of 14 points to spare.
