LEINSTER JUV HURLING LEAGUE FINAL
Eoin fall short against St Brendan’s in Juvenile ‘A1’ encounter

THERE was disappointment for Colaiste Eoin at Dunganny yesterday, when they came up short against St Brendan’s, Birr in the final of the Leinster Juvenile Hurling ‘A1’ League.
The gaelscoil had advanced to this stage with a 4-12 to 2-9 semi-final win against St Fintan’s HS, Sutton, but when you consider Brendan’s comfortably overcame the challenge of Castlecomer CS on the same day, this was always likely to be a tough assignment for the Booterstown school.
They were playing against the breeze in the first-half, and even though Jack O Rodaigh, Rian O Maoilean and goalkeeper Luca O Siochain produced fine displays, they were trailing 0-6 to 0-1 during the interval.
A victory wasn’t beyond the reach of Eoin just yet, however, and influential centre-forward Liam O Fiachna was taking the fight to the Offaly side upon the resumption. Yet, they were subsequently dealt a hammer blow at the midway stage in the half, when a Brendan’s goal created daylight between the teams once more.
Colaiste Eoin continued to battle until the final moments, but the Faithful County outfit ultimately triumphed on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-7.
