HFCS Rathcoole are ‘D’ for deadly

HFCS Rathcoole were crowned Dublin Schools Junior ‘D’ Football champions with a narrow 1-10 to 1-7 victory against Lusk CC at Abbotstown on Monday.

Liam O’Sullivan’s side were defeated by Donabate CC in last year’s decider, but following their hard-earned semi-final triumph over Colaiste Chiarain, they were confident of going one better on this occasion. It was an extremely tight encounter throughout, but thanks to strong performances from William Hanley, James Timmons and Alex O’Neill, they held a one-point cushion (0-7 to 1-3) during the break.

Ben Reddan was also in fine form for HFCS (who are backboned by players from St Mary’s, Saggart, St Finian’s, Newcastle and Round Tower Clondalkin), and even though Lusk remained in contention until the closing moments of the contest, a Dillon Featherston goal midway through the second-half ultimately swung the outcome in Rathcoole’s favour.
