Templeogue College 4-11 St Kevin’s CBS 1-4
A brace of goals from Darragh O’Shea, and one each from Conor Riordan and John Carthy, were crucial in the curtain-raiser at O’Toole Park on Tuesday, as Templeogue College captured the Tom Quinlan Shield with a commanding display against a dogged yet ultimately overwhelmed St Kevin’s CBS side.
Conditions were not ideal. Templeogue had a strong wind behind them in the first half, which presented them with a good opportunity to get a stranglehold on the game.
Kevin’s were proving hard to break down, but Templeogue did eventually find inroads as some fine scores from O’Shea and captain Simon King helped them to build some momentum.
Tormentor
Conor Riordan was proving to be the chief tormentor of Kevin’s, and his 1-2 haul in the opening 30 minutes ensured that the Templeville Road outfit held an eight-point lead (1-7 to 0-2) heading into the second period.
Darren Bishop’s charges never allowed complacency to creep into their play, though, as two majors from O’Shea and a well-taken effort courtesy of the industrious Carthy gave Templeogue a hard-earned 16-point triumph.
Aside from their goal-scoring heroes, Templeogue also had excellent displays from King, who offered a strong presence in the middle of the field, as well as Conor Murphy and Michael Fitzgerald, who were able to keep a tight reign on the Kevin’s attack from their half-back positions.
