Temple’ and Choilm snare Dub silverware
DUBLIN SCHOOLS HURLING ROUND-UP
By Daire Walsh
TEMPLEOGUE COLLEGE and Colaiste Choilm were the victors at a rain-soaked O’Toole Park yesterday afternoon, as their respective forward lines fired them towards victory in the Juvenile Hurling ‘B’ & Juvenile Hurling ‘D’ deciders.
The ‘B’ showpiece between Templeogue College and St Declan’s CBS was an enticing proposition on paper, as both sides had enjoyed impressive wins in their penultimate round encounters.
St Declan’s CBS had 21 points to spare in their semi-final clash with Salesian College, whereas Templeogue came through on the other side of the draw on a scoreline of 8-12 to 1-7 against St Fintan’s HS.
Though chances were much harder to come by in this fixture, the game produced some excellent scores nevertheless. Brian McDonnell had secured an impressive hat-trick last week, and he was in fine form once again, as he picked off some nice scores alongside Glen Dodrell and Pierce O’Brien.
Templeogue were equally prolific, however, and they had a couple of points to spare over the Cabra school for much of the opening period.
Little separated Declan’s and the Templeville Road outfit as the game entered into the final quarter, with both defences breached on a number of occasions.
In the end, though, Templeogue had just enough to get over the line, as their 4-7 to 4-3 triumph meant that they were able to add to the Senior Hurling ‘A’ Shield trophy they won towards the tail end of 2011.
Earlier on in the Kimmage venue, Colaiste Choilm of Swords enjoyed a commanding 17-point success over Marian College in the Hurling ‘D’ final.
The Dublin 4 school had gone into the game in good form after their semi-final triumph over Drimnagh Castle (11-7 to 5-11), but they were always second best against a well-prepared Colaiste Choilm, who progressed to the decider after a 4-11 to 3-4 win over Portmarnock CS.
