Double Croker delight for Belgrove
Daire Walsh
It was a day to remember for Belgrove at Croke Park yesterday, as the Cumann na mBunscol primary schools football finals continued at GAA HQ.
At the end of a day that featured nine showpiece encounters, Belgrove Senior BNS, Clontarf claimed the Corn Kitterick title at the expense of Pope John Paul II NS, Malahide, and this success had followed the earlier exploits of Belgrove Senior GNS.
They fought back to claim a share of the spoils (3-6 to 4-3) with St Patrick’s GNS, Hollypark in the Corn Austin Finn showpiece.
That was one of three games that finished on level terms.
Stoppage-time points from Iwan Mac Roibeard and Padraic O Nuadhain helped Gaelscoil Inse Chor to thwart an outright victory for Scoil Chronic, Rath Cuil in the Corn an Cheid game, and this was replicated by Scoil San Treasa, Mount Merrion and St Brigid’s BNS, Killester in the S Corn na nGearaltach showdown.
There was a familiar face on the sidelines for Clonburris NS in their S Corn Chlanna Gael triumph over Terenure College JS – with Frank Roebuck (a member of Jim Gavin’s Dublin backroom team) taking charge of the Clondalkin outfit.
Centre-fielder Jack Kelly produced a sterling display for Clonburris, and in spite of the best efforts of Eddie Bohan for Terenure, they emerged victorious, 3-12 to 3-3.
St Pius X GNS were defeated by a Lucy Clarke-inspired Rush NS in the S Corn Austin Finn competition, while there were also successes for Scoil Oilibheir, An Chuil Mhin, Scoil Lorcain, Baile na Manach and Mount Sackville PS, Chapelizod.
